Homecoming

January 19. The day I was adopted. Mom and dad always celebrated today like another birthday. Ever since I was little today was celebrated with a gift, dinner to my favorite place, or flowers. Mom never missed a year. I always considered it a cherished day/celebration. Dad doesn’t ever initiate the calls or gifts, bit he would always talk to me after my mom called to wish me a happy homecoming day. The only other person who remembers today is my longest friendship. It put a smile on my face to talk to Lani this morning and sew her sweet messages. It was touching and needed. But that was it. Its not a day formally announced to others like a birthday. I am so blessed to have a friend who remembers this significant day and values me. It was hard not hearing from mom. I feel like I am forgotten in a sense. Today just brings a new beginning, a change in life, and a chance for a different life. To me it is significant. It is a valued day. But besides Lani, I fear this will always be a lonely day here on out. No call from mom. No one making me feel special or like a priority. I feel hurt, numb, angry… but there is no one to be mad at. I just feel lost. Like a part of my identity is gone.
