I have always been curious about my ethnicity- if I am 100% Bolivian Indian or any some percentage of another race. This past year I have really wanted to pursue finding out. I am tired of people asking what I am and me, having no exact answer. People always ask if I am Indonesian, Hawaiian, Samoan, or part African American. Since I have no clue what my father was I decided to order a DNA kit. It arrived and I followed instructions and sent in my swab. Well, I found out exactly the percentages of what I am. Results: 50% Bolivian Indigenous Indian, 43% European, and 7% Sub Saharan African American. This really only means an African country below the Saharan desert. The test doesn't specifically determine the exact European or African country, which is a bummer, but at least I know what I am. My mom had always told me that they thought my biological dad was Italian. I guess in the hospital the nurses said that I looked just like the Italian babies that had been born there. During the time I was born there was quite a large population of Italians in Bolivia. Once I got my results I immediately called my sister. Strange- you wouldn't think I would call her first. But I thought she would get a kick out of it because she has always told me I look African American. I am so glad that I did this. It gives me a sense of identity I never had before.
